We are heartbroken to announce the death of our loving husband, father and teacher Dr. James Scott Adkins. He passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years, surrounded by his wife and caregivers. After serving as an officer in the Korean War, James Adkins went on to earn a Masters Degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin. Following a successful career with the Food and Drug Administration, James Adkins then pursued a second career as a professor and a department chairman at Howard University. Dr. Adkins is remembered for his warm sense of humor and his dedication to supporting the success of his family, his students and his colleagues. He leaves behind his wife Zalina Adkins, daughters Sheryl Adkins-Green and Ava Onalaja, son-in-law Geoff Green, grandsons Landon Green and Colton Green, sisters Bessie Moss and Mary Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
