Obituary of Stanley Joseph Harris

STANLEY JOSEPH HARRIS, JR. (Age 79) Devoted husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully on Saturday January 23, 2010, at his residence at Arden Courts in Kensington, MD. Originally from Easton, Pennsylvania, he first came to Washington, DC, to attend the Washington College of Law at American University and was a lawyer for 30 years at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (old Federal Power Commission). A long-time active member of St. Alban's Parish in Washington, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Sherry Sandefer Harris. He is survived by his daughters, Noell Sottile and Eliot Edgar; his sons-in-law, Jim Sottile and Bill Edgar; and four grandchildren, Jimmie and David Sottile and Emily and Katie Edgar. Family and friends recall Stan's humor, his smile, and his gusto for life. Civil servant by trade, opera lover, Democrat, bridge player, newspaper reader, funny, opinionated, generous, loving and most of all devoted to his family -- the foundation, center and meaning of his life. He will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Alban's Church in Washington, DC.
