My son Justin and I are so sorry to hear of James Akins' passing. He was an extremely smart man and I so enjoyed hearing his stories, political theories, and just loved to hear him speak. as I was growing up my mother loved him so much and was so proud of him as was my sister Geraldine Reece. we all looked forward to being with him at our Akins family reunions in Ellijay. He will be missed tremendously. (Deborah Thurman Daughter of Boneta Akins Chadwick Ellijay, GA)

Dear Mrs. Akins: In the winter of 1951 and 1952 Jim and I lived in the ACS boarding department in Beirut. We were obliged to tuck the high-school students in to bed by 9 o'clock and had many minor problems to deal with. Jim was a much-admired teacher and already loved the Middle East, having walked to Beirut from Europe I just wanted to send you my deepest condolences at the loss of your husband. Gay Wells Mize

Dear Akins Family,
We want to extend our sincerest condolences on the passing of your beloved husband, father, and family member. We felt honored to have met him in Deep Creek a couple of summers ago; he was such a gracious host. The country lost a brilliant and visionary statesman who served his country and the world so well.

I was shocked to see in the NYT of Jim's death. I'm Blake Moore a high school classmate and a good friend of his at Buchtel and at Akron University. We even traveled together to boot camp when we entered the Navy in 1945. I'm now professor emeritus at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis. It would be wonderful to hear from you in the future.
