Obituary of Margaret Ann Schmidt

Margaret Ann Schmidt, 91, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday April 17, 2011 in Washington DC. Mrs. Schmidt was born in Avoca, Pennsylvania and resided in East Orange and South Orange New Jersey before coming to the District of Columbia, where she resided for the last twenty years. A former post office clerk, Mrs. Schmidt volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and Church Deacon. She also worked in the Transition Assistance Program at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church to help the homeless and ex-prisoners and made prayer shawls with the CCPC knitting circle. Mrs. Margaret Schmidt is the loving wife of the late Erich A. Schmidt, who passed away in 1974. She is the beloved mother of Christy Schmidt of Washington DC and adoring grandmother of Peter and Tony Bayne, also of Washington DC. She is the loving sister of Mary, Claire, Dorothy, Jeanne, and her sister Helen and brother Robert, who both preceded her in death. Mrs. Schmidt is also the proud aunt of many nieces and nephews, and great-aunt of many great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service giving thanks for her life will be held on Thursday May 5 at 3:30 pm at the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, One Chevy Chase Circle, Washington DC. Donations in her memory may be sent to the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church to further their Transition Assistance Program (at which she volunteered) and to support their music ministry.
