Obituary of Elmer Lacey

Elmer Lacey also known as "Buddy" was born on December 20, 1935 in Washington, DC to the late Alfonso Lacey and Nellie Lacey. Elmer bid farewell to his life, family, and friends on March 17, 2014, and transcended to celestial peace. Elmer grew up in Southeast Washington, DC. He helped set up a clubhouse for children of the Shipley Terrace neighborhood at no cost to the Parkway Youth Association. His greatest pastime was dancing and was admired as one of the best dancers in Southeast, especially in hand dancing. He was very skilled in sports and played on both the offensive and defensive teams for the sandlot football team the Satellites. He went to Armstrong High School where he demonstrated an aptitude for mechanics and engineering. Elmer started his long career in maintenance engineering as a supervisor at the Rosemary Hills Apartments. After17 years at the Rosemary Hills Apartments, he decided to further his engineering career at the Divinity school of the Franciscan Order. He was known at the school for his outgoing personality and work ethic. He later was employed at the Howard University Physical Facilities Management Power Plant. He received awards at Howard University for his extensive knowledge in engineering and mechanics. He retired from Howard University in 2000. During his leisure time, he shared his expertise with home improvement with family, neighbors, and friends to repair their homes. He was an avid fan of sports, especially football and baseball, and he was a "die hard" Redskin fan. He enjoyed reading newspapers and engaging others in discussions on local and national events. He had a preference for American cars especially, Cadillacs, LTDs, and Mercury Marquis. In his twilight years, he enjoyed babysitting and mentoring his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruth, Emma, Dorothy, Eloise, Mary, Alonzo, and Daniel. He leaves to cherish his memory to his faithful and devoted friend and wife of 60 years, Marie Antoinette Lacey; his children, Nathaniel, Dwight, Antonio, and Nichelle; grandchildren, Serina, Sean, Cody, and Mara; great-grandchildren Brianna, Max, and Sean Jr; daughter in-laws Cynthia and Romy, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
