Obituary of George Richard Bentley

On Tuesday, 13 May 2014, George Richard Bentley Jr., age 76, died at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Maryland. He was born 6 September 1937 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the son of George Richard Bentley Sr. and Ethel Minnie Ramsey. He was a systems analyst for many years with Maryland National Bank, AAI Corporation and Friendly Ice Cream. More recently, he was the owner of The Village Bookstore in Westfield, Massachusetts, and owner and art director of Parables, a publisher of LDS fiction and poetry. He was a former bishop of the Springfield, Massachusetts, Ward. He enjoyed reading, photography, chess, genealogy, and geology, but he was most engaged in working with his growing family. He is survived by his wife of forty years, the former Elizabeth Petty, a son, George Richard Bentley III (Denise) of Walkersville, Maryland, and four daughters, Dorothy-Ella Rodgers (Jim) of Tennessee, Andrea Beatty (Herb) of Maryland, Deborah Carl (John) of New Hampshire, and Amy Richardson (Nathan) of Ohio. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Beverley Rollins (Bob) of Holland, Massachusetts, and Barbara Dunwoody (Hank) of Hampden, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ethel Rosella, and by a granddaughter, Johanna. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick, followed by a memorial service on Friday evening at 7:00 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 199 North Place, Frederick, Maryland.
