Obituary of Edward Eliot Goodrich

Edward Eliot Goodrich, Jr. was born in Takoma Park, Maryland, on September 24, 1942. He passed away on June 24, 2014, after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. He grew up in Bethesda and Silver Spring. He graduated in the Class of 1961 from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, where he was a member of the Marching Band. He earned an Associate of Arts degree at Montgomery College, and also attended the University of Maryland. Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army in February, 1965, and spent most of his time in the Army stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in February, 1968. He worked briefly for the Veterans Administration, but then decided to work for an excavating firm, operating heavy equipment, since he enjoyed driving large military vehicles while he was in the Army. Ed was a founding member of Columbia Presbyterian Church, and was ordained as a deacon in 1997. He was a quiet, faithful servant of Christ in the local church who also attended to denominational concerns of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. Ed took pleasure in attending heavy equipment expos, and dedicated himself to learning all he could about these vehicles. In some cases, he knew more about the equipment than the sales representatives! He was proficient in swimming and diving, and enjoyed the summers at the family beach house on the Chesapeake Bay. He loved having children around, and especially enjoyed doting on his grand-nieces and godson. Edward leaves behind his sister, brother and sister-in-law, three nephews and their wives, three grand-nieces, and one grand-nephew
