Linda Lee

Obituary of Linda H. Lee

Linda Hsu Lee, 53 of Potomac MD passed away peacefully at home July 14th. She was born in Taipei, Taiwan and one of three daughters raised by Winston and Marian Hsu. Linda and her family moved to the U.S. in 1974 and they eventually settled in El Paso, Texas. Linda graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, Linda pursued a successful career as a Marketing Account Representative and Sales Engineer for IBM in Bethesda, Maryland where she worked for 20 years supporting U.S. Department of Defense, Department of the Treasury, and other Federal Government customers. Linda married Alan Lee in 1992 and together they raised two children – Christopher and Victoria. In 2001 Linda was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Lou Gehrig's disease which eventually forced her to leave her career at IBM in 2003. Linda didn't let ALS defeat her and she never gave in to the disease. Linda refocused all her energy towards raising her children, caring for her family, and helping others in need. She loved every moment she had with her family and still somehow found humor in life even as ALS caused progressive degeneration to near total paralysis. She was determined to be around to teach her kids to be compassionate, giving, and understanding of all people and to encourage her kids to pursue a good education. Even though Linda had very limited mobility and ability to speak as her disease progressed, she continued to be there for her family by spending time consoling her kids when they were down, helping them with their studies, and guiding them in their pursuit of higher education. What amazed those closest to Linda and knew her best was that she was always more concerned about the well-being and feelings of others over her own. She realized that each day on earth was a gift from God and never took it for granted. Unfortunately in August 2013, Linda was diagnosed with another terminal illness - Triple Negative Breast Cancer – an extremely aggressive disease. Even after this diagnosis Linda NEVER gave up on life and she refocused her energies to ensure her children were prepared for life beyond her days. Linda's unrelenting determination to beat cancer and spend as much time as possible with her family became her new goal. She approached her fate with much grace and dignity and never complained even when the cancer caused much pain, weakness, and nausea. Linda continued to raise her kids and provide them with daily encouragement to see them through the challenges of life. Linda achieved her goal of seeing her kids graduate from high school and attend college. She prepared her kids for the start of a bright future, and up until her last days she courageously encouraged them to pursue their dreams which would not include her. After an extremely long and arduous battle with ALS and breast cancer, Linda peacefully passed away on July 14, 2014. Linda was preceded in death by her parents Winston and Marian and sister Grace. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend Alan, two beautiful and compassionate children Christopher and Victoria and her sister Marisa. Linda's life will be celebrated at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church located at 1 Chevy Chase Circle NW, Washington DC 20015 on Saturday, July 26th at 11am with a reception to follow immediately. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Linda Lee to the ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter located at 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855 or on-line at http://webdc.alsa.org/site/PageServer?pagename=DC_homepage
