Obituary of Alice Reynolds Eubank

Alice R. Eubank, 102, died peacefully on July 24, 2014 in Washington D.C. Memorial Services will be held at Ingleside at Rock Creek in early September. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City. Alice was the beloved wife of the late Mahlon Z. Eubank to whom she was married for 51 years. She is survived by Caroline E. Lyke, her daughter, and her husband Robert F. Lyke of Washington, D.C. and Robert E. Eubank, her son, and his wife Pamela Bush Eubank of Harvard, Massachusetts, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Alice was born in Eolia, Missouri, on June 16, 1912, the daughter of Charles L. Reynolds and Mary Francis (Mayme) Harding Reynolds, and sister of Margaret Reynolds Govero. Her forebears came from Virginia to Missouri in covered wagons and established the farm where she was born. They found a hard and risky life where the core values of hard work and sharing with friends and family were paramount. Alice never lost those values and set a marvelous example for those who followed her. Alice married Mahlon Eubank in 1941, and in 1947 she and her two small children joined him In Yokahama Japan where Mahlon was a senior attorney in the Judge Advocate Section of the Eighth Army. After returning from Japan the family lived in Birmingham Alabama and Washington D.C. before returning to Kansas City. In 1954 the family moved to Larchmont, New York and lived there until 1977 when Alice and Mahlon moved to Fort Myers Florida. Throughout her life Alice was always active in her church, serving in various leadership roles. She was noted for her wonderful ability to attract and enjoy friends and especially for her cooking. Her meals, especially her rolls and deserts, are legendary in the family and to those who were at her table. Her great joy was family and friends and she loved most of all to celebrate holidays together. She said that she wanted to be remembered as someone who laughed easily, and she most certainly did. She was a wonderful story teller, had a superb memory and loved humor of all kinds. When she was 90 years old, Alice moved to Ingleside at Rock Creek, a continuing care community in Washington D.C. On her 100th birthday her entire extended family and friends gathered in Washington to celebrate with her. She was deeply loved, and we will always cherish her memory. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Ingleside Foundation, 5121 Broad Branch Road NW, Washington, D.C. 20008. http://www.wifoundation.com/
