Obituary of Marjorie B. Parce

Marion Marjorie Burgess Parce, 97, died on October 12, 2018 in Columbia, MD. She was born in Norfolk, VA on August 18, 1921 and was the daughter of James William and Marion Kelso Burgess. She graduated from Mary Washington College and taught at Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, VA. She was married, October 14, 1943, to John Raymond Parce. The Parces settled in Kensington, MD in the late 1940's. There the family continued to grow and became active members of Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church (WMPC). Mrs. Parce spent most of her years as a homemaker, but returned to her background in education as a Reading Specialist Aide with Montgomery County Public Schools. At home and at church she enjoyed needlework and crafts. She was well known to her friends for her New Year's Day open house parties. Mrs. Parce and her husband enjoyed traveling in their senior years. Among their destinations were trips with Rev. Graham Bardsley of WMPC to Israel, Italy, the British Isles, and Jordan, where visiting religious sites enriched their faith. Later in her life, Mrs. Parce enjoyed volunteering at Meals on Wheels as well as being a Stephen minister. Mrs. Parce is preceded in death by her husband John, her brother Ian Kelso Burgess, her daughter Lynn Ann, and her son Burgess William. She will be greatly missed by her sons John Wallace (Nancy) and Bruce Anderson (Meg) and daughter Katherine Louise France. She also leaves seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service at WMPC will be on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church, 10123 Connecticut Avenue, Kensington, MD 20895.
