Obituary of Dudley Gibson Woodard

Dudley Gibson Woodard passed away peacefully, October 9, 2018. He was born June 11, 1935 in Washington DC and attended Banneker Junior High and Dunbar High School, finishing his education at Windsor Mountain School in Lenox MA before graduating from Tufts University with a B.S. degree in Chemistry. He earned his Masters Degree in Chemistry from Northeastern University. Dudley worked as a research Chemist with Dewey & Almy Chemical Co. of Cambridge MA, W. R. Grace Co. of Columbia MD and Neutron Products in Dickerson MD, where he retired as a Vice President of the company. Dudley is survived by his wife of thirty years, Jane Puryear Woodard; two daughters: Laurie Woodard of New York City and Michel Woodard Ohly of Arlington MA.; and a brother Weldon Woodard who lives in Caracas, Venezuela. Throughout his life he enjoyed tennis, skiing and ran three Marine Corps Marathons. He also enjoyed sailing the Chesapeake Bay with his wife Jane, and lived aboard their sailboat s/v Merhaba for 8 years sailing in the Caribbean. He was a sculptor working in bronze and wood and his pieces are held in several collections throughout the US. He enjoyed all sorts of music from jazz and classical to reggae and world music. The family will organize a memorial service in the new year.
