Obituary of Concetta DeRosa
Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1926, Connie was the third of four children in her close-knit Italian-American
family. She married Louis DeRosa and moved to Boston in the 1940s, and returned to
Queens, NY after 2 years. Connie was utterly devoted to her mother, older sister, and younger
brother and their families, and older brother whom she sadly lost in World War II. She enjoyed
family gatherings and each new addition to the extended family. She and Louis eventually
moved to Suffolk County, NY to raise their only child, Olympia. Connie had a long career as a tax
examiner with the IRS. By the 1990s, Connie and Louis moved to Springfield, VA after their
grandchildren were born, and spent many happy years there enjoying family and church life.
After 60 years of marriage, Louis passed on and Connie lived independently, enjoying family,
friends and activities at Saint Bernadette's in Springfield VA. She loved to visit with family, tend
her garden, dine with friends, decorate her home, and sing in the church choir. She was quick to
laugh. She moved to Rockville, MD for the last few years of her life and was very close to her
daughter and grandchildren. She was the most loyal mother, wife, family member and friend.
Connie passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 24, 2018. She is survived by her
daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren in Washington, DC. A family funeral mass in Chevy
Chase, DC will be held on December 1, followed by a reception and private interment.
