Obituary of Vincent Samuel Benson

Vincent "Vince" Samuel Benson, born on April 25, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Yvonne Lopez and the late Samuel Benson, passed away at age 69 on November 1, 2018 in Silver Spring, Maryland. Vincent graduated from University of Maryland University College graduate school in 1995 with a Masters degree in General Administration. Vincent did his undergraduate studies at Antioch University's George Meany Center for Labor Studies. He graduated in 1987. He also attended Pennsylvania State University. Vincent began his career at Amtrak as a a Revenue Accounting clerk and Union Representative in 1973, and held various jobs of increasing responsibility including Manager, Safety and Environmental Control. He worked at Amtrak for nearly 20 years. After leaving Amtrak he worked in the Information Technology industry at various companies, including the Department of Justice and the Veteran's Administration as a Project Manager until retiring in 2010. Vincent was married to Beverly Benson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tania Thompson; stepson, Jamal Jones; and sisters, Adele McCleary Lillistin, Valerie McCleary, and Yvette McCleary. Vincent is survived by his son, Chaka Benson; daughter, Akila Benson; brothers, Gregory McCleary and Damon Harris; sisters, Vanessa McCleary Brown and Yvonne McCleary-Bugg; and grandchildren, Miles Benson, Cheyenne Benson, Amani Thompson, Sierra Anderson, and Raven Anderson. He enjoyed photography and writing poetry and was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He was also a member of Project Management Institute. Friends and family members may attend the celebration of life on Saturday, December 15 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Hotel at the University of Maryland, 2777 Baltimore Avenue, College Park, Maryland, 20740.
