Jim was my uncle by marriage. Judy Kay was my mother's aunt. My dad and Jim were both hired by Page Communications on the same day and continued to be friends for years. My uncle was highly intelligent and I enjoyed learning from him. You will be missed uncle. I know that dad misses talking to you. My deepest sympathy to the rest of Jim's friends and family.

Jim was a loyal member of the Society of Wireless Pioneers (SOWP) and was always there over the years checking into Ben Russell's SOWP nets. I enjoyed talking to Jim and he was an excellent operator on Ham Radio using Morse. He will be greatly missed by all the members of the nets. Our deepest sympathy to his family.

Jim was the user and in my opinion expert in a unique method of Morse code sending, that of a sideswiper or "cootie" key, which instead of up and down was moved sideways. It takes great skill to send well with one, and Jim had that. Jim was a member of the International Sideswiper Net as well as the Society of Wireless Pioneers, a group of individuals who had "gone down to the sea in ships" as Morse operators. Jim was an outstanding member of these organizations and we...

Jim was a great asset to Ham Radio and the CW (Morse Code) community. We all looked forward to hearing him on the radio on Thursday evenings as we all gathered just to say hello via our morse code keys called Sideswipers. Jim had what we would call a great "fist" and although I never met him in person, I could always tell that he was a real gentleman. We will miss him. Steve-W1SFR, Vermont

To James Barrett's family and friends.
I am truly sorry for your loss. As a Ham radio I've had the honor and pleasure to meet Jim (K3CKT) on the air on a regular basis for about 20 years. We've had so many long chats in Morse code along with other friends. Jim was an excellent operator and a kind gentleman. Jim will be greatly missed, I'll never forget this good friend.
From my family and me, I would like to offer you and your family our deepest and most sincere condolences.
