Obituary of Maj. Stephanie Anne (Newton) Proellochs

Major (Ret) Stephanie Anne Proellochs (née Newton), 46, of Springfield, VA and Wellsburg, WV, lived with infectious optimism and gratitude, even in terrible times. Hilarious, wicked smart, charming, and so beautiful, many have described her as "the strongest woman I knew." A rare combination of fierce competitor and a kind soul, Stephanie was a bad-ass leader ("pleases and thank you's are implied"). We were blessed and honored to have her as friend, aunt, niece, sister, daughter, daughter-in-law, mother, and wife. She shared a deep true love with her beloved John, and above all, their son, JP. With Team Proellochs, Stephanie brought full frontal determination to everything she tackled, whether work or play or the loving support of family and friends. A child of the Air Force, Stephanie was born at Edwards Air Force Base in California to SMSgt Harold D. Newton, Sr. (deceased) and Susan R. Newton (of Lee's Summit, MO), the youngest sibling of Duke (Harold, Jr.) and Nikki. Stephanie accepted the Air Force's "proud heritage and tradition of honor" in 2007 and served in the Medical Service Corps until medically retired in 2019. In all our grief, we know that Stephanie left the world a better place for having visited.

Even though we can't get together and share hugs and our gratitude for Stephanie in person right now, we feel your spirit and are receiving your love and prayers. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, but in the meantime, Stephanie would encourage all of us to be focused, positive, and find ways to be helpful and have fun in these trying times of COVID-19.

No flowers or gifts, please, but donations may be made in Stephanie's memory to the Semper Fi Fund (semperfifund.org) or The Sarcoma Foundation (curesarcoma.org).

Rest in peace, valiant warrior.
