James was one of my favorite friends I never met. We got to know one another through Facebook groups and a shared love of cruising. We also shared what some regarded as slightly warped senses of humor and an appreciation for subtle sarcasm. Online friendships can be precarious, but James didn't just talk the talk; he walked the walk. His generosity, extended to people he'd never even met in person (including but by no means limited to myself) was amazing.
I miss both his sharp wit and his serious, thoughtful comments. I miss the smile it brought to my face to see his name pop up in my Messenger message list. It makes me sad that plans to cruise together, to meet him and Luke "in the flesh," won't happen now. But he left a mark on my life, as I know he did on many others' lives.
Rest in peace, my friend. You made a difference.
