I knew Sally from Catholic University - we were both Adjuncts there. Whether it was our classes or the functioning of CU, Sally was always upbeat and serious, and the ultimate professional. All conversations with Sally were wonderful - we could laugh together or consider important issues that related to our work as teachers in the library science program. She was a delight and a joy to know. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

From the moment I met Sally in 1960 at her parent’s house in the suburbs of Philadelphia she was always nice to me. My sister Chrissie was Sally’s age so they became fast friends. I was the sidekick but she was always welcoming.
We stayed in touch and saw each other over the years when we could. When she became ill this Spring my sister and I had a three way text going. We were amazed at her ability to text us even when it was difficult. What an amazing person!
My deepest sympathies to Sam, Tom, John and Emily

My friendship with Sally was long and precious. We met when we were both nine years old—sixty years ago.
We kept In touch with each other well, through correspondence and phone calls mostly. And the occasional quality visit. But in the beginning, in the sixties, both of our families got together on a regular basis because our parents knew each other in their youth. Her parents, brothers and sister became like family to us.
Sally was a delightful and very giving person—artistic, resourceful and fun. She had a wonderful laugh. No one ever had a better, more caring or more generous friend, and it was such a blessing to have her in my life.
Sending my deepest condolences to Sam, Tom, John, Emily and all those fortunate enough to know her.

Sally was my Professor for Museums & Archives at CUA -- Her love of the subject was so contagious! It was an unforgettable summer experience to visit sites all around the DC area under her leadership. She was caring and empathetic, and I appreciated her high regard for her 'students' as colleagues. She'll be greatly missed! I'm offering my condolences and prayers for the family during this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of working with Sally on a few exhibits related to architecture and historic preservation at the University of Maryland Libraries. Her enthusiasm for the subject was infectious and she possessed a wealth of knowledge. We also talked parenting, and she me the book, "The Ballet Shoes" by Noel Streatfeild, which my daughter and I enjoyed reading together. My memories of Sally are of her warmth, her kindness, her love of beauty and digging in deep to learn more about a subject she cared about. The world is a grayer place without her light.

I will always remember Sally telling me many years ago that she didn't have time to get together with me because she was being courted seriously by a wonderful man named Sam Stokes. Sally was so happy, and she and Sam went on to have a beautiful son and a life together. Shewas so proud of becaming a member of the Friends of the Greenbelt Museum even before she moved to Greenbelt. Her contributions were invaluable to the Museum and to me personally.

Dear Sam and Tom,
Your Sally was such a beautiful, accomplished, and gracious person. She has made important and lasting contributions to historic preservation through her work at the University of Maryland library shaping and promoting the historic preservation collection, and through her research and publications. We always think of how loyal to US/ICOMOS both you, Sam, and Sally have been. We will very much miss her presence by your side.
Our hearts go out to you and to the others in your family and the many friends who join you in grieving for your precious Sally.
Sincerely,
Carol and Joe Shull

My memory of Sally was at the former School of Library and Information Science at Marist Hall at Catholic University at the school"s picnic. Sally and I sat under the huge fig tree and talked about our sons Wayne and Tom. It was a very pleasant and joyful conversation which I received much advice from Sally. I have and will always remember that conversation. I will miss Sally as she was a beautiful and happy person. She cared about her family and students. My condolences to family and friends and may God bless you during this time. Louise Gray, staff at Catholic University.
