Obituary of Amanda McCoy Garnett

Amanda McCoy Garnett,  daughter of Norman C. McCoy and Jane Anders, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family and friends on December 30, 2021. She was born January 20, 1931 in Washington, DC. 

Amanda attended Miner's Teachers College in Washington, DC where she majored in education. Amanda loved teaching and made it her responsibility and purpose to instill the love of learning in all her students. Her devotion led to teaching positions at Bunker HIll Elementary School, as well as Principal at Hardy Middle School and Vice Principal at Rudolph Elementary. She was employed by the DC Public School system for over 30 years. 

Although Amanda loved teaching, her greatest joy was witnessing her daughters and grandchildren develop into responsible, resilient and empathic adults.

She is preceded in death by her husband Louis Garnett; siblings, Ruth Clauselle and Fred Mccoy; brother-in-law Richard Clauselle. Left to cherish her are siblings, Sara Snowden and Norman McCoy jr.; Daughters, Cassandra Phillips and Michelle Garnett; Son-in-law M. Andrew Caines; Niece Renee Clauselle Price; Grandchildren Latoya Hill, Danielle Davis, Brittany and Ashley Phillips, Tyson and Marshall Caines; Great grandchildren Aiden and Ethan Hill.

Funeral service will be January 29,2022 at Advent Funeral & Cremation 9031 Annapolis Road Lanham, Maryland 20705 at 11:00 am.
