Obituary of Constance Cooke Dixon

Constance Cooke Dixon Born Mildred Constance Cooke on December 30, 1927, in Orange, Virginia to Edward and Nannie Cooke, and died September 1, 2013 at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Dr. Ernest M. Dixon; her parents; and sisters, Valirie Cooke Micks and Lucille Cooke Hunter. A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Nursing, Connie worked as a registered nurse prior to devoting herself to full-time work as mother and grandmother. She was ordained as a Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church. Active in many organizations, including P.E.O., the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and as a Charter Member of the House of Burgesses Chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, Connie's great sense of humor, creativity, southern charm, and kindness touched the hearts of many who loved her dearly. She took great pride in her family, including twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and she loved being a Virginian. She is survived by her four children, Ernest M. Dixon, Jr. (Dick) of Long Island, NY; David Edward Dixon of Chantilly, VA; Laurie Dixon Morgan and Lynn Dixon Van Dermark, both of Dallas, TX; along with their spouses and children; her sister, Mary Virginia Cooke Darnell of Charlottesville, VA; and loving nephew and nieces. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in McLean, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the University of Virginia School of Nursing (www.nursing.virginia.edu) .
