Obituary of Kathlyn D. Bartlett
Kathlyn (Kay) D. Bartlett, 95, of Silver Spring, MD, passed
away peacefully on February 3, 2014, at Montgomery Hospice
Casey House in Rockville, MD. Kay was born in Bushnell,
IL, to Mary Hughey Jones and Charles Jones. She married
her husband Ret. Army Col. John Bartlett in 1949. After
living in Turkey while John served in the US Army, they
settled in Maryland in 1956 with their two sons Henry
(Hank) and Michael.
Kay was a beloved member of her community and an active
volunteer. She made a career of volunteering and in 2012
received the President's Call to Service Award, a lifetime
achievement award in recognition of the numerous years of
volunteer service that she gave to her community and
church. In her free time Kay could be found playing bridge
with her friends or visiting with her loving family.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband in 1986, her son
Hank Bartlett in 2006, and her six brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son Michael Bartlett of Woodbine,
MD, her three grandchildren Chad Bartlett of Rockville, MD,
Matthew Bartlett of Silver Spring, MD, and Melissa Jeras of
Gilbert, AZ. She is also survived by three greatgrandchildren.
A private interment will be held at Arlington National
Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or
Fisher House Foundation.
