Obituary of Dorothy Marian Fordham

Major Dorothy Marion Fordham (USAR, Retired) passed on into eternal life on May 24, 2015 in the Wilson Health Care Center at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg MD. She previously resided in Washington DC. She was born in Orangeburg SC the daughter of Marion Fordham and Mary Williams Fordham. Her sister Mary Fordham Dennis preceded her into eternal life but she is survived by her brother Charles Reid of Catonsville MD, her nephew Michael Fordham Dennis of Gaithersburg MD and her niece Gail Dennis Robertson of Chicago IL along with great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She received a BA degree from South Carolina State University and a BS degree in Nursing from Catholic University in Washington DC. She enlisted in the U.S. Army Women's Army Corps, served in the post World War II occupation of Germany, graduated from OCS and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1949. She progressed through the ranks and was appointed a Reserve Commissioned Officer with the rank of Major in 1962. Her last posting before retirement was as the Adjutant for the U.S. Army Dispensary at the Pentagon. After retirement from the Army she worked for Delta Sigma Theta sorority at the national office in Washington DC between 1975 and 2001 when she retired as an Information Specialist. She was a very active volunteer in parish life at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Washington DC where she worked in the Credit Union and sang in the choir. Major Fordham traveled to Europe, Australia, Ireland, Hawaii, Alaska and many other places and she loved music particularly jazz and Christmas music all year. A funeral and mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 3800 Ely Place SE, Washington DC on June 5, 2015 with a visitation at 10:00am and the mass at 11:00am. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace of Church. Interment on a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
