Obituary of Michelle Joan Mulkey

Michelle Joan Wason Mulkey, affectionately known as Miki or Nanny was born on September 6, 1947 in Washington, D.C. She lived on Parker Ave. in Wheaton, MD until she was 11 years old, and then moved to the Woodside community in Silver Spring. She lived there until she married Thomas Dennis Mulkey in 1965. Miki and Dennis lived in Takoma Park for over 40 years, until she moved to her daughter's home in Oakview. She attended Catholic school until 8th grade, at which point she refused to go to a Catholic high school. Instead, she attended Montgomery Blair High School and graduated in 1965. She worked until 1969, when she gave birth to Marlana Michelle, and enjoyed being a full-time mother. In 1970, she gave birth to a son, Thomas Edward, whom she had to return to heaven. Now, they can finally be together again. After Marlana started school, Miki returned to work and then enrolled in college. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business, magna cum laude. She continued to work full time while getting her degree. One of her many long term positions was as Church Administrator here at Silver Spring Presbyterian. In 1990, she became a grandmother when Amber Michelle was born. She was blessed again in 2004, when Autumn Danielle was born. In 2014, she was thrilled to become a great grandmother to Abigail Rose, and, in 2015, she learned she was expecting another great grandchild, Noah Ethan. Throughout her life, Nanny had an enduring love for and connection with children. While she was in hospice, her goal was to reassure each visitor, and especially the children, of the blessings she awaited: a new, healthy body and the chance to reunite with her beloved husband and son. As Miki prepared for her journey to heaven, Katyana, Nanny's dear 2 year old friend, told her mother that she saw Nanny in the tree outside her window. Miki was pure of heart, always seeking peace, never initiating conflict, and tolerating all variety of people and opinions without ever compromising her own integrity. She is truly loved and will be dearly missed. Donations may be sent to Montgomery Hospice and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
