Obituary of Carlos Hidalgo

After a short battle with lung cancer, Carlos Alberto Hidalgo died on June 16, 2015 in Silver Spring, MD at the age of 68. He leaves behind his wife, Marta Hidalgo; his daughter Sabrina Hidalgo and granddaughters Rhavan and Aijae Hidalgo-Martin. Carlos was born on April 24, 1947 in La Libertad, El Salvador to Tomasa Hidalgo, who predeceased him. He is survived by his older brother Antonio Reyna and younger sister Dina Hidalgo and a host of nieces and nephew. Carlos came to the United States in 1979 and married Marta on November 8, 1980. The couple lived in Adelphi Maryland where they raised their daughter Sabrina. Carlos worked as a painter for 30 years before retiring in 2000. At which time he began caring for his very young granddaughters. He loved watching sports, specifically soccer from Latin America and Europe as well as tennis. He enjoyed fishing and going on family vacations to Myrtle Beach, SC every summer. He loved the great outdoors and he loved his pets. Carlos was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in March of 2015. Carlos requested to be cremated. His ashes will be kept at the family home. The family would especially like to thank those family and friends who visited him in the hospital during his illness; as well as the nurses and staff at Washington Adventist Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital who helped him transition in a dignified manner. We would also like to thank the staff from radiation oncology at Washington Adventist Hospital and Dr. Schulsinger for their compassionate care; as well as Dr. Espinoza and Dr. Min of Maryland Oncology Hematology for their constant, attentive treatment; and the Rapp Funeral Home, for making the arrangements.
