Obituary of Gloria Becker

Gloria Charles Becker (née Menzel) passed away peacefully on Monday February 15 at 8:14 pm in Suburban Hospital. Her son John, his wife Annie, and granddaughter Kelly were by her side. She is mourned and survived by her three sons Michael, Peter, and John; three daughters-in-law Silvia, Carol, and Annie; seven grandchildren Christopher, Michelle, Elise, Robbie, Kelly, Jillian, and Sean; and one great grandson Henry Dooley. Born in Englewood, NJ in 1927, she attended McKinley Technical in Washington DC (Class of 1944), married Raymond J Becker (F.S.O.) in 1947, and spent the next 20 years as a foreign service wife in India, Sri Lanka, Sweden, and Afghanistan. She received her B.A. and M.A. in Psychology from The George Washington University and was administrative head of the GW Afghan Legal Training Program. She received her F.S.O. commission in 1979 and was assigned to Cameroon and Mauritania. After retiring from the State Department, she enjoyed time with family and friends and was an active parishioner, chalicer, and layreader at All Saints' Chevy Chase. She served on the Altar Guild, was a member of the Women of All Saints, and was a longtime thrift shop volunteer. She is much loved by many and will be missed greatly. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on February 26 at 11:00 am at All Saints' Church, 3 Chevy Chase Circle, Chevy Chase, Maryland.
