Obituary of Lloyd Edward Walters

Lloyd Edward Walters, 90 years old - a long-time resident of Potomac, Maryland, died peacefully at his home on Monday February 22, 2016. Lloyd was born in Guyana, South America. He married his sweetheart, Loreen, and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Their union produced five children – Donna, Claire, Marcelle, Linden and Lloyda. As a husband, Lloyd was chivalrous, faithful and caring. As a father, he was dedicated to the empowerment of his children and was regarded as a superlative provider and an encourager of educational achievement and success. He was affectionately known to family members and friends as "Uncle," "Brother Lloyd," "Sir Wally," "and "Wally." Most recently, he was affectionately known as, "Daddy Walters" to his caregivers. Lloyd was charismatic, a gentleman with a ready humor and a laid back outlook on life. He enjoyed a rich social and cultural lifestyle through a variety of civic, spiritual and cultural involvements. He was given to hospitality, community service, and caring for the poor. He was a dapper dresser and loved a good party. He also loved cars and motorcycles and tinkering with things. He was extremely creative and handy with tools. He was a skilled carpenter who built his family's homes (and some furniture.) In addition, he was a lifelong learner who earned a degree as well as other correspondence course certificates after the age of 60. Lloyd's spiritual life was full of faith. He re-committed his life to Christ at 90. As a staunch Methodist, his involvement in the ministries of the Bedford Methodist, Hughes United Methodist and Potomac United Methodist was lengthy, and involved work in the soup kitchen and the various men's group outreaches. Even in his latter years, he blessed the church teams who would visit him at home with prayer or by raising a hymn. Lloyd is pre-deceased by his children, Linden and Donna and siblings Ruby, Gwendolyn, Frank and Ralph. To celebrate his memory, remain: His wife: Loreen, Daughters, Sons-in-law, Daughter-in-law, Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren; a Sister, Many nieces and nephews, and other extended family -- including his past and present caregivers -- who all became like family after years of caring and dedicated service. The family wishes to also thank the caring team at JSSA Hospice, Visiting Angels Assisted Living Services and everyone who participated in caring for this well-loved man of God. He will be missed.
