Obituary of Edmund Burke Peterson

Edmund Burke Peterson of Kensington, MD died of natural causes on February 12, 2016 at The Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. He will be joined with his beloved wife, Margaret Hanna Peterson, who preceded him in death on June 8, 2013 of cancer. Burke was the second son of Dart and Helen Peterson. Margaret was one of three children to Joseph and Gertrude Hanna; both of Cleveland, OH. Both attended college and graduated. Burke chose a career as an Urban Planner and Margaret pursued a career as a school teacher. He served in the military Navy, Special Artificer, Third Class on the USSARD-15 WWII. They met for the first time in June 1947 behind the stage at Cain Park Theater in Cleveland. On September 16, 1950, they married and moved to Washington, DC to start a family; adopting two children. In 1959, they joined Cedar Lane Unitarian Church, to get involved in the play groups and working with the community to help find their talents. He later retired as an artist in stain glass and she retired from Sears in Bethesda, MD. Surviving to cherish their memory are, daughter, Elizabeth Green (Bryan); son, Charles Peterson (Sheri); grandchildren, Paul, Amanda Rister, Lauran, Kelly, Samuel Peterson; great grands, Jayden, Gavin, Faith Rister; sister-in-law, Dorothy Peterson; nieces, Nancy, Susan; nephew, Tom of Cleveland, OH; Hanna family, cousins in Wales. A memorial service has been scheduled for 11:00a.m. May 28, 2016 at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church 9601 Cedar Lane Bethesda, MD 20814.
