Jean Wye

Obituary of Jean Burlingame Wye

Jean Burlingame Wye passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 surrounded by her adoring family.

Jean was born on September 29, 1946 in Zanesville, Ohio. The daughter of Wayne Burlingame and Elsie Wagner, the family later moved to a farm in Otsego, just north of New Concord, in 1954.

Jean attended John Glen high school in New Concord and later Kent University where she met her husband Chris. Life took Jean and Chris to Washington, DC in the 1970s where Jean taught herself to renovate historic homes on Capitol Hill. A trailblazer in her day, the legacy of Jean's 45+ year career extends to most blocks on Capitol Hill. Jean had a loyal base of repeat clients from a word of mouth network. Known for her tireless work ethic, honesty, and down to earth nature, she was a fixture in this community, and was often seen driving around town in her old station wagon or picking up supplies at the local hardware store, Frager’s.

Jean was as kind and sweet as they come, completely selfless, quick to smile, and always took time to ask others about themselves and lend a listening ear. She was deeply loved by her immediate family who all live in Washington, DC. They often marveled together at how lucky they are to be close to one another.

Jean is survived by her loving husband, Chris Wye, her two children, Pamela Wye and Jonathon Wye; two grandchildren, Mason (9) and Wyatt (6) Wellborn. and her caring older brothers, Hal and Jerry Burlingame.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
