Mary Mahone

Obituary of Mary Alice Mahone

Mary (Mari) Alice Dorsey Mahone was born to the late Leon & Mae Dorsey on February 8,1952 at Montgomery General Hospital, Olney, MD. Surrounded by family, Mary was welcomed into the arms of her loving Savior on Friday, February 2, 2024, in Winder, Georgia.

Mary, the second to the youngest child of seven children, was educated in Montgomery County, Maryland public schools. She attended and graduated from Richard Montgomery High School. This is where she met the love of her life, Sidney Mahone.

Though they married at a young age, Sidney and Mary were blessed to be married almost 55 years. It was not always easy, but they set a great example for many couples of what the covenant of marriage looks like. If you asked them how they did it, they would quickly say “It was God!” From this beautiful union, they were blessed with four beautiful children, Carmen Renee, Sidney Jr. (Mann), Brian Antony and Donovan Tyler.

Mary accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 13. She grew up at and attended Refuge Church of Christ for many years. She was also a member of Christ Church of Rockville and the Interdenominational Church of God before relocating to the Atlanta, GA area in 2007. Until the time of her illness, Mary served faithfully as an active member of Free Chapel Gwinnett Campus in Suwanee, Georgia.

Mary never met a stranger; she loved people and people loved her. It was nothing for her to meet someone at a department store and bring them home for dinner, which would be the beginning of a lifelong friendship. When her children brought friends home, they fell in love with her. She was known as Aunt Mary to so many. She was a lot of fun and really enjoyed life.

If you knew Mary well, you knew that even though she was frugal, she loved to shop.  Not only did she like to shop, she also loved to give. She would furnish a whole room of someone’s house if they needed it. If you saw something in her home that you liked, she would give it to you. She was generous and loved to bless others.

Mary worked as an administrative assistant for four years before running a daycare in her home. She loved to work with her hands. Along with Sidney, they finished their unfinished basement, rebuilt their deck, along with many other projects. She was a great homemaker and home decorator, as well as helping others in their homes. She was such a great cook that neighbor kids would show up at mealtime. Mary also had a love for large puzzles.

One of the highlights of Mary’s year was her Christmas parties that she threw every year. Her Christmas parties were the best!

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William, Howard, Paul and Peter. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband, Sidney; her daughter, Carmen (Lee), her sons, Sidney, Jr., Brian (Keitha), and Donovan; one brother, Ernest, Sr.; sister, Susan Dorsey-Shaw; her grandchildren, Te’aune, Zion, Demetrea, Henry III (Crystal), Benjamin, Joshua, Caleb, Kendall, Leah, Sarah, Brandon and Emmanuel; three great-grandchildren, Zuri, Raegan, Ryder; two special friends, Anita Mobley and Deborah Butler; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, family and friends.
